Tell us a little about your business, 8 Track Foods.
Beans are the next superfood! They’re a nutritional powerhouse—packed with plant-based protein, fiber, iron, and essential nutrients. Yet, despite all their incredible benefits, canned beans are largely treated as a low-value commodity with consumers not knowing what to do with them. That inspired me to change the narrative. We partnered with local, organic farmers across the U.S. to source the highest-quality beans. With just three premium ingredients—organic beans, water, and sea salt—we created a line of delicious, sustainable canned beans, including Organic Blonde Chickpeas, Organic Black Beans, and Organic White Cannellini Beans. Our mission is rooted in sustainable eating to feed our planet. We want everyone to love beans!
What inspired you to start your business?
I am a food scientist with a lifelong passion for plant-based nutrition and a career dedicated to developing natural, organic, vegan/vegetarian products.
Over the years, I have developed hundreds of products you see in the grocery store. While working on meat alternatives, I kept coming back to one powerful, overlooked ingredient. Beans. Although canned beans are a mainstay of my diet, they have become a cheap commodity. I wanted to raise the quality and inspire others to incorporate beans in their diet with our innovative recipes. Plus, beans are nitrogen fixers, so they help our soil health and planet.
From your perspective, what is the greatest barrier to entry into the international marketplace, and what are you doing to go global?
All countries have different food label regulations, such as nutrition fact panels, ingredient statements, and expiration date formats. This creates a huge barrier to entry in the global market. Although we are familiar with US requirements, we need expert guidance to ensure compliance in other countries. It is an opportunity worth pursuing, since the United States is recognized as one of the best regions for growing high quality beans. We’re working with WBENC, which is the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, to understand what the international process would look like for 8 Track Foods.
What advice would you have for women entrepreneurs who are looking to start their business?
As women, we often feel pressure to do it all—to manage every detail ourselves and avoid taking on risks. But starting a business requires a different perspective. It’s not about being reckless; it’s about understanding that growth often comes with risk.
Let go of the idea that you must handle everything alone. Delegate, build your community, and invest in support where you can, like your local Women’s Business Development Center. Give yourself permission to think bigger, take calculated risks, and build something you can grow globally.
