Celebrating Juneteenth 2026

wegg® honors and supports Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, which takes place this Friday, June, 19th. This day of recognition is an important annual commemoration and is “recognized as the nation’s second independence day .” Simran Srivastava writes in her article, “8 Companies That Celebrate Juneteenth and Inspire Action,”

“Juneteenth is more than a date on the calendar. It marks the day in 1865 when enslaved Black Americans in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder that freedom in America came gradually, and that progress requires continued effort.”

wegg aims to uplift African-American women entrepreneurs, and honoring this day is just one part of that. The intersection of identities held by black women entrepreneurs are always important to acknowledge within the economic landscape and we hope that this year’s Juneteenth is meaningful and equitable for their businesses. This day has a rich history, as, “Juneteenth was first celebrated in Texas in 1866, just one year after enslaved people there learned they were free, and community-led celebrations have continued for more than 150 years.”
