A Lookback at wegg®: Then and Now
With Labor Day 2026 upon us, the wegg team has been reflecting on more than 10 years of tireless hard work, and the incredible, ever-growing organization that work has built. What began as a simple blog in 2008 has evolved into a trusted global resource for women entrepreneurs, providing tuition-free programming, coaching, and education to more than 60,000 women around the world. We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and, most importantly, of the inspiring women entrepreneurs who have used wegg as a resource, community, and launchpad as they’ve taken their businesses global.
wegg President Laurel Delaney spoke on closing the gendered exporting imbalance that was the organization’s onus, in her article, “From ‘Secret Sauce’ to Full Recipe: How Far Women Entrepreneurs Grow Global Has Come”:
“In 2008, I started a blog called Women Entrepreneurs Grow Global® because I kept seeing the same hard truth: women-owned businesses were far less likely to trade internationally than businesses owned by men…Roughly 30 percent of businesses were women-owned, but just 12 percent of exporters were. That gap wasn’t about talent or ambition. It was about access, confidence and support…By 2015, I’d incorporated wegg as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. By 2019, we’d helped more than 1,600 women business owners start and expand internationally. I was proud of that number then, and I am even more proud of who we currently serve.”
The transformative arc of wegg’s earliest beginnings to now offering hundreds of programs every year, is heartening to have witnessed firsthand. As we celebrate Labor Day, we’re reminded that growth doesn’t happen overnight. Growth is built through years of hard work, persistence, collaboration, and a belief in what’s possible, even if it does not exist yet. One thing has always been certain: we won’t be slowing down any time soon.
