County Mayo, Ireland

Women entrepreneurs in County Mayo, Ireland (where my ancestors on my Dad’s side of the family are from!) are being called on to apply for a free programme which pairs them with some of Ireland’s leading businesswomen as mentors. The program is called Going for Growth and has been effective with more than 300 businesswomen since it was established in 2008.

According to the latest figures from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Irish women are two-and-a-half times less likely to start a business than their male counterparts.

Pay a visit to Going For Growth.  If you are a female owner-manager of a business, have been trading for two years or more, and are serious about developing your company, apply for Going for Growth 2014.  It starts in February.  Deadline to apply is January 24, 2014.

Irish Ambassadors for Female Entrepreneurship Encourage More Women to Start a Business

Minister for Small Business John Perry TD encourages more women to start their own business.  Irish Ambassadors for Female Entrepreneurship (Facebook page) have been appointed by the European Commission to promote and encourage more women to become entrepreneurs and set up businesses.

The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Report for Ireland 2010 noted that fewer women than men are active as entrepreneurs.  Perry said:

“It is therefore vitally important that we provide the right environment to foster the development of this untapped female entrepreneurial talent across all sectors of Irish business.”
