Happy Women’s History Month!
Welcome to Women’s History Month 2024! The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration on March 8th is “Invest in women: Accelerate progress,” which is second nature to all of us at wegg®. We have always been, and will always be, devoted to the economic empowerment of every woman across the world. The UN Women article, “Why investing in women is a human rights issue,” perfectly encapsulates the need and reward that directly correlates with backing and empowering women,
“Recognizing women’s rights as an investment issue is critical for creating transformative solutions that enable women to realize their rights, escape the cycle of poverty, and truly thrive. Investing in women is a cornerstone for building inclusive societies. Progress for women benefits us all.”
The financial prosperity of all women, their families, and their communities would be symbiotic for global capital worldwide, as UN Women goes on to cite, “Evidence shows that closing gender gaps could boost GDP per capita by 20 percent. It is estimated that closing existing gaps in care services and expanding decent works, would create almost 300 million jobs by 2035.”
In the write-up “Five things to accelerate women’s economic empowerment,” the main components that UN Women deems critical in this juncture, that have the most room for growth in terms of progress are 1) Resources, 2) Jobs, 3) Time, 4) Security, and 5) Rights. wegg serves as a facet of the resources line item, and we would like to spotlight another asset, the SheTrades MENA Hub which is, “aiming to empower women entrepreneurs in the region with skills, resources, and market access opportunities for international trade. The hub, hosted by DEDC, will serve as a resource center for women-led businesses, offering training and support to enhance their participation in global markets,” as described by SME10X.
The SheTrades stratagem has already made an impact regarding the influence and opportunity of women entrepreneurs and global trade. So far in 2024, they galvanized, “over 250 women entrepreneurs from more than 60 countries, along with global business leaders and international development partners [for] discussions on concrete solutions for challenges facing women entrepreneurs and explored opportunities for women to access new markets in an evolving green and digital global trading system.”
This type of work is beneficial for the pursuit of this month’s Women’s Day theme, and we are always pleased to share about this and like-minded initiatives!
